Dearest Reader,
I have some very exciting news to share with you all; it seems the Candlelight concert series’ latest programme is Regency-adjacent. Taking notes from none other than Shondaland’s hit series on Netflix, the Best of Bridgerton on Strings shall see the TV show’s famous classical covers take centre stage at St Andrew’s Parish Church. Undoubtedly, this forthcoming event will likely attract Dubliners given their partiality for the young Lady Penelope Bridgerton.
Tickets are on sale now for an unmissable chance to revisit your favourite Bridgerton moments. And I daresay songs such as Pitbull’s tempting “Give Me Everything” and Miley Cyrus’ explosive “Wrecking Ball” should suffice to invoke the wisteria-covered mansions of Mayfair and flashbacks to a most scandalous carriage ride.
The Best of Bridgerton on Strings
As society’s most reliable voice, if anyone shall reveal the circumstances of the season’s musical jewel, it is I.
Starting with the thousands of candles that will be on display, the concert is already set to be mesmerising. Followed by this warm and inviting glow is the skilled string quartet prepared to take on modern music in the classical form. And then combined with the audience’s memory of every first dance, intense emotion, and ambiguous facial expression from Bridgerton, it is almost impossible not to fall under a nostalgic, charm-induced spell.
Whether you believe Ariana Grande’s dismissive “thank u, next” was a fitting melody for Daphne’s entrance or that “Cheap Thrills” captured the anticipation looming in the air as guests arrived at the Innovation Ball, it cannot be denied that the classical twist offers a certain je ne sais quoi thanks to its contemporary source. Hear the aforementioned hits and more performed by candlelight for a truly unforgettable evening worthy of a mention in your diary.
It’s a musical tribute not even Her Majesty could turn her nose up at.
Secret-keeping has never been my strong suit, and nor should it be yours in this instance. Spread the word and let the rest of the Fair City know Candlelight x Bridgerton is coming to St Andrew’s Parish Church.
Yours truly,
Lady Whistledown
