Dublin city centre can get so busy on a weekend, and on a sunny day you can barely move for people, but there are a few spots around town where you can have a bit of respite from the crowds. The lovely Cake Cafe is centrally located, nearby to Camden Street, but you’d never know it!
Hidden behind The Last Bookshop on Camden Street Lower sits an incredible little cafe with a stunning outdoor terrace perfect for sunnier days and plenty of tasty bakes to treat yourself with. All you need to do in order to find the Cake Cafe is walk through the back doors of the bookshop where you will be met with colourful decor and good vibes.
Their fluffy cakes are to die for, but first, you’ll want a taste of the savoury stuff. Their cheese, pork, beef and organic vegetables are all grown or reared locally and purchased from Irish companies, which is always a big plus, and they take brunch very seriously.
There are plenty of options for everyone, including vegan options and the option to order gluten-free bread, which you can have topped with a whole host of delicious ingredients. From poached eggs to tasty potato farl, cannellini beans and chorizo to delicious beetroot hummus, they make their food wholesome and full of vegetables but still really indulgent-tasting.
Plus, Cake Cafe offers an incredible afternoon tea. For €30 per person, you’ll receive a selection of both sweet and savoury bites alongside tea, coffee and a glass of bubbles. If you’ve not had your fill of alcohol afterwards then don’t worry, they have plenty of delicious-sounding cocktails to try too! Afternoon tea is only available between 12 pm and 3.30 pm, Tuesdays till Saturdays but you don’t have to book a table, just turn up!
So, if you make your way to this hidden cafe you’re going to find a little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the street but you’ll also find plenty of fresh air and delicious food to stuff your face with. Head to 61 Camden Street Lower, D02 VY17, walk through the back doors and you’ll find the most fantastic little gem of a cafe.
