Yes, you read that right.
Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal have been two names on pretty much everyone’s lips when it comes to talking about acting talent from Ireland. The former has acted in major films, such as Ladybird (2017) and Little Women (2019), with the latter rising to prominence for his role in the 2020 TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s seminal Normal People.
Now, both Ronan and Mescal are set to join forces for the first time, playing a married couple no less! Ronan, who has a golden globe to her name, and Mescal, who boasts a BAFTA, will join the cast of a new Gareth Davies-directed sci-fi thriller alongside the likes of LaKeith Stanfield.
The movie is a film-adaption of Ian Reid’s novel The Foe, and will see a couple’s (played by the Irish pair) world turned on its head when one is asked to travel into space.
Speaking of the movie, Gareth Davies said: “I’ve been on the hunt to do something in sci-fi, it was always on my bucket list, and also to find material I could make an actor’s piece with a Cassavetian level of performance.
“I read Foe and could not put it down. It’s incredibly suspenseful, very moving and dealt with sci-fi in a most grounded way that spoke to where we are heading as a society, with a lot of the questions we all have, explored in a profound way.”
The film will be set out as a psychological thriller set in the future. There is no release date as of yet.
