Arguably one of the realest forms of artistic expression, the blues was a gateway for African Americans to speak their truth when words alone weren’t enough. With pioneers like Muddy Waters, Ma Rainey and Robert Johnson, the blues gave rise to a number of genres, but more importantly described the Black experience during the turn of the century and beyond. In celebration of its ability to mirror life itself, “The Jazz Room” introduces a new tribute to the blues in Dublin, performed fervently by a talented blues band.
“The Jazz Room: Tribute to the Blues” will be held on select dates at Button Factory, the independent live music venue and nightclub located in Temple Bar. Places are limited though so secure your tickets now to explore the sound of resilience and human truth.
What to expect at “The Jazz Room: Tribute to the Blues”?
“The Jazz Room: Tribute to the Blues” is an ode to the heartfelt folk music created by African Americans of the South. For a full hour, a local blues band featuring a talented vocalist will take on quintessential songs like “The Thrill is Gone” by BB King and “Crossroads” by Robert Johnson. With cocktails available for purchase at the venue, guests can unwind in a casual atmosphere and enjoy a carefully curated selection of classic and modern hits.
Blues, its story and the show
Originated by freed African Americans in the late 19th century, the blues gave voice to the people that until then were voiceless. Aching guitar licks and blue notes told stories of the hard sharecropping life, made more tolerable by the vibrant juke joint parties. This music genre laid the foundation for much of the music we love today, including jazz, rock ‘n’ roll and soul.
This soul-stirring concert recreates iconic blues songs, such as “Mannish Boy” and “Boom Boom”, reminding us that even in the depths of sorrow, there is still beauty and power in expression. With a drink in hand, you’ll boogie to familiar tunes that echo the genre’s deep roots.
This unique show celebrates blues as one of the precursors of jazz. With every song that speaks of loss, hope and hard roads travelled, The Jazz Room: Tribute to the Blues invites Dubliners to embark on a moving musical journey.
You can catch this tribute on selected dates at Button Factory, with two back-to-back performances scheduled for 18:00 and 20:00 each evening. Tickets are sold in categories and seating is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
🦼Besides the balcony, the venue is fully wheelchair accessible.
