Step into the fairytale settings of Candlelight at Malahide Castle.
As we get acquainted with the beauty of outdoor activities once again in Dublin, we might just have the perfect post-lockdown activity for you to note down in your diaries. This month, you may just have the opportunity of a lifetime at your fingertips. How often will you get to relax to the dulcet sounds of seminal musicians in a castle that boasts an 800 year heritage and grounds of over 260 acres?
The open-air concert is perfectly positioned for night wrapped in history. It isn’t every day you can take in the notes of Einaudi or Nina Simone in a castle that was part of Oliver Cromwell’s conquest of Ireland in the 17th century, after all. After Cromwell’s fall, the castle saw quite the sticky situation unfold, with new owner Miles Corbet hanged and Malahide returned to the Talbots, the previous owners. Hand on heart, we can promise that that much drama will not unfold at these candlelight concerts; with a far smoother, but no less royal, experience guaranteed for all.
And, of course, the venue will allow for a safe socially-distant setting, while maintaining its dashing qualities. You’re bound to enjoy a magnificent view of the beautiful string quartet lulling you with the music of Nina Simone, featuring a live jazz band. Or, you could opt for the heartstring-tugging sounds of Ludivico Einaudi, featuring a talented live pianist guiding you through the night. Then, there’s even one for the film buffs out there, with a night celebrating the most Magical Movie Soundtracks, featuring a live string quartet.
Each show will commence at 9pm, with concerts scheduled for September 23 (Tribute to Nina Simone), September 25 (Magical Movie Soundtracks) and September 28 (Tribute to Ludivico Einaudi). With glorious, candlelit décor in a castle, you’re sure to be living out an entry from your bucketlist in the dreamiest way possible!
For the safety of our audience, all of the candlelight will be provided through flameless candles.
