After conquering the UK in style, the vastly popular restaurant Six By Nico opened its first store in Dublin back in November 2021. It followed on from their vastly successful ventures in London, Glasgow, Manchester, Belfast, Edinburgh, and Liverpool.
Born in Finnieston, Glasgow, the Six By Nico concept is simple but unique: an affordable six-course taster menu that refreshes every six weeks. Each menu is created by head chef Nico Simone to fit a theme that many will be familiar with.
Currently, Six By Nico is serving up an ‘Ancient Rome’ menu and it sounds like an absolute dream! You can enjoy delicious cacio e pepe, which is that tasty pasta dish that waiters often toss in whole wheels of cheese. Then there’s a mouthwatering crispy duck egg with white asparagus, hazelnut and brown butter, and that’s just two of the six courses. You can expect to taste flavours from across the expansive Roman Empire, which at its peak encompassed a whopping 5 million square kilometers of the world.
Menus in the past have also included the beloved chippy tea theme, which won the hearts of many a diner. It boasted fancy plates such as chips & cheese; Scrabster monkfish, steak pie, fish supper and even a deep-fried Mars bar. Although many themes are derived from classic dishes, they will all come with their own unique touches to give you that distinctive dining experience we all crave.
And, for a bougie six-course fine dining, the €45 set menu is by no means unreasonable given what’s on offer. Plus, you can add on a hearty selection of wines that are selected especially to pair the theme of the night for six weeks. Six By Nico’s Ancient Rome menu runs until April 24 but if you miss it then don’t worry because you’ll have the opportunity to try something entirely different in a couple of months!
