This is fantastic news.
Vaccines for Covid-19 are rolling out for free, according to Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly.
Both have pledged that the government will cover the costs of providing Ireland with the vaccinations.
In even more great news, Stephen Donnelly said the vaccine would be ready to begin proceedings in as early as a few weeks. As the nation hopes for a more ‘normal’ 2021, this is a big step in the right direction.
Once the EU confirms the drug as safe to go, it will be rolled out to Ireland. The pledge that the vaccines are free is also subject to approval from the Cabinet.
Stephen Donnelly said: “We can’t have any situation where there could be any question of access being a problem because of affordability.”
It is thought the first wave of vaccinations for Ireland will cost around €200million.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the vaccine becomes available for free as soon as possible!’
