Little Pyg has won the title of Best Pizza In Ireland at the Top Pizza Europa Awards and it was the only Irish pizza spot to be named on the list of Europe’s top 50 pizza places. Outside of Italy, of course. It wouldn’t be very fair if Italy was included in the rankings.
The Top Pizza Europa Awards took place in Barcelona on Wednesday (May 3). In the top spot was Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona who, if we recall correctly, have won the title a few times.
They also won the title of Pizza Of The Year with their base topped with salsa de tomates cherry asados (roasted cherry tomato sauce), mozzarella and holandesa de albahaca (basil hollandaise). The Dough Bros in Galway was also mentioned on the list of ‘Excellent Pizzerias in Europe’.
There are many reasons, however, why Little Pyg is the best pizzeria in Ireland. They’re the only Michelin guide pizza spot in Ireland. Their pizza is baked in a huge pizza oven, made from the rock of Mount Vesuvius.
Plus, the dough is fermented for 48 hours before it’s cooked, giving the yeast plenty of time to work its magic. Federico Rapali, Little Pyg’s head pizza chef described the process:
“The dough is the most important part of our pizza and it takes 48 hours to produce our Michelin Guide pizza dough.”
Their pizzas really are something special, from simple margaritas because sometimes you just want to keep it classic to the Spicy Little Pyg if you fancy something different. This delicious dish is topped with tasty tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy sauteed Italian peppers, and delicious pecorino cheese. Just the thought of it has us drooling.
You can wash it all down with a lovely cocktail. There are loads to choose from, including a white margarita and a tangy passionfruit pornstar martini. You can even grab two for €20 and this place is in the Michelin Guide, guys!
