Some people like to release their pent up stress with a bit of mindfulness and meditation but if you, like us, would rather hurl axes then check out Axe Club on Gaelic Street. It’s Dublin’s only axe throwing experience and it makes for the perfect mates date or team-building experience.
Situated just outside of the centre in East Wall, Axe Club certainly looks the part. The decor has definite Norse vibes, with wooden targets, horned helmets and faux-Ancient Norse lettering everywhere. Expert axe throwing instructors will teach you how to unleash the Viking inside of you and inflict some real damage and when you land it in the middle of the target you’ll feel such a sense of satisfaction.
Each session costs €25 per person for 60 minutes and you can check it out every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Dublin location. You’ll be playing with other visitors to the centre but if you’d like a private session and can find 5 other people who are up for it it will cost you €32 per person.
The fun doesn’t stop there because the centre runs axe throwing pizza events costing €55 per person. For the first 90 minutes, aspiring Vikings get to throw axes with instruction, after which pizza arrives and guests can sit by the log fire drinking whatever they’ve brought (it’s BYOB).
If you head out of the city to the Wicklow location by the Avonmore River in Glendalough you can have even more great experiences. The 3 and 4 hour Viking fire events are held outside, and will teach you how to throw 3 different types of axes, how to light a fire using flint and give you an introduction to woodland archery. Both are €60 per person.
You can even arrange to stay overnight by the river in proper Viking style and learn archery or axe throwing in the morning. It’s up to you, and you can view all of the options, plus book your session on the website.
